In order to better help the freshmen to increase the understanding of the major, enhance the professional identity and self-confidence. At 13:20 on December 1, 2022, the Safety engineering major of the College of Ocean Science and Engineering launched the professional cognition education for freshmen. Mr. Jiao Yu, director of the Department of Safety Science and Engineering, gave a lecture, and Mr. Lei Mengyu, instructor and all the new students of safety engineering attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Mr. Jiao told the story from four aspects: Basic situation of the profession, positioning of the safety profession, historical evolution and characteristic advantages, professional construction planning and social service of the safety discipline. Afterwards, Mr. Jiao listed the important academic achievements of the safety discipline, which made the freshmen have a new sense of identity with this major. Finally, the students put forward their questions to Mr. Jiao, and Mr. Jiao patiently answered them one by one, looking forward to the bright future of the safety discipline together in the laughter.
In this professional cognition education, the students understood the importance of safety engineering, an emerging discipline, to the society, improved their recognition of safety engineering, and clarified the mission and future development of the safety discipline. In order to provide security for human Marine activities (port ships, Marine engineering, etc.) and regional economic development, the students all expressed that they would redouble their efforts in future study and life, and work harder and strive to become senior professionals in maritime safety!
